CHRISTIE BRINKLEY: IDENTITY CRISIS EXTRAORDINAIRRE
It's no secret that I just adore Grace Kelly, Cary Grant, Liz Taylor and Jimmy Stewart. I love the style of the 50's, just so elegant and clean-cut. I've seen every film these people have starred in and love their look. Yes, I
sometimes have tried to emulate their style...just the style. I have a self-identity so I don't try to bend my psyche
to become these stars or their characters in film.
Christie Brinkley is not so lucky. I've seen tons of television interviews, magazine articles and photos to know this:
Christie Brinkley has been and is living her life as character Frances Stevens played by Grace in Alfred Hitchcock's
'To Catch a Thief'. Before I prove this point and go into comparisons let me just say that I am just mortified for
Brinkley in that she showed up in NYC a few years ago at the Princess Grace Foundation charity ball channeling her idol. Cringe.
That's Prince Albert, Grace's son in the center. Just read his face.
The Real DealI'm not going a searching for a pic of Grace in her kerchief but believe me there is one. They were so popular in the 50's and 60's. Here's Christie getting her best Grace-on, in the 2K's no less...
She has those crazy Tom Cruise eyes and smileChristie's marriage failed because she is sooo busy trying to be a character in one of Grace Kelly's movies from the 50's, entitled 'To Catch a Thief'. Christie has an identity problem but never the balls to cut her hair into a bob. InStyle magazine has an article of how Christie wanted to do her hair as such without having to actually cut it. If you see pics of her in the last eight years or so she is seen running around the Hamptons in identical outfits from that film. Sad. Christie will ALWAYS be gorgeous, though.
The above was taken from a gossip blog. Trudging through InStyle's archives is a bit daunting as we need to move on but I do have it because the answer was great hairstyling advice. The question Christie poses is this:
How do I get the bob Grace Kelly had in To Catch a Thief? I was managing a beauty supply wholesale ring at the time the 'beauty report' was written in the magazine.
I was watching 'The Tonight Show' many years ago and Christie was a guest and she was telling Jay about her photography and she spoke just like Frances did to John Robie the jewel thief in this scene:

Now don't get me started on George Clooney, another blatant Cary Grant ripper-offer! Not as unabashedly mimicking as Christian Slater doing that whole Jack Nicholson thing. I guess not all parents can be a great
role model to their children. The impressionable ones are screaming it from the mountain tops!

I don't think Grace was aging that well. Maybe just the hair.
